My Bureau prides itself on catering to ‘digital nomads’ – offering the best of both worlds with quiet office spaces and a relaxed social environment. This entry to the list is another city centre coworking space, this time on Micklegate, which is close to the train station if you are commuting in.
The best part is that if you spend £5 in their on-site café, you get to work there for free! Perfect if you’re travelling in and need your caffeine fix. Both professional and fun, meeting rooms with space for up to 4 people are also available. Do note that regular hot desking is on a first-come, first-served basis, so it’s always best to book in advance.

Located in the iconic Hiscox building in York city centre, the Hiscox Business Club offers a unique opportunity for small businesses. Launched in April 2016, this exclusive club provides select local businesses with free access to modern office spaces, meeting rooms, and a range of facilities.
With 35 desks and various workspaces available, the club invited entrepreneurs and business owners with up to four employees to apply by completing a short application form, detailing what they could bring to the group. Although applications to the Hiscox Business Club are *at time of writing* closed, it remains a prime example of the collaborative and supportive work environment available in York.

I only came across Muse while updating this post, and it’s a hidden gem that’s easy to miss. Tucked away just outside the central thoroughfares, Muse York is a low-key coworking venue ideal for creatives, solo professionals, and quiet collaborators. It’s deliberately small-scale and community-focused, with day rates and part-time packages available for those not needing full-time desk access.

How to choose a coworking space
You’ve probably looked through my list and still aren’t sure which space to pick, and that’s totally fine. Finding the right coworking space in York is more than desks and Wi-Fi; it’s about finding somewhere that fits your working patterns and the kind of community you want to be part of.
Accessibility
York’s a beautiful city, that’s for sure, but some of its buildings are centuries old, which can make accessibility a real issue. If you or anyone on your team needs step-free access, wide doorways, or accessible facilities, it’s worth checking that before signing up. A few of the more modern coworking spaces around the train station or Fossgate area tend to have better accessibility than the older Georgian townhouses you’ll find in the city centre.

For me, this is what makes or breaks a coworking space. I love walking into a space that feels alive, where freelancers, creatives and small business owners actually talk to each other.
